Zorflex - a new device for chronic wounds
author: Dr. med. H. Scheer, M. Kaiser, Prof. Dr. med. U. Zingg

Aim:Various techniques have been described in the literature detailing the use of debridement-tools for example curettes or scaples. We propose a new spatula-device* which would be ideal for either the woundbed preparation or the cleaning of skin surrounding from danders.
Methods: We tested a transparent polycarbonate-spatula, using on both sides, the narrow side, 0.5 cm and the wide side, 1.2 cm for efficient removal of fibrin deposits or biofilm. With this cell-friendly spatula corners and angles can be softly disburdened from slough.
Results: The removal of skin cells, fibrin and slough can be done easily, atraumatic which protection of granulations tissue against bleeding. The measurement of wound dimensions by use of the measuring scale on the spatula is a quick help for wound documentation. With the spatula sterile application of creams or ointments is possible. The spatula is shatterproof.
Conclusion: The existing methods of standard debridement tools are less than ideal. The spatula may now be considered to be an effective method with simple instruction in the management of wound bed preparation. It is clinically tested since 2015 and will further be important for mechanical conditioning of chronic wounds.
